Great school, nice choice of surf spots for any weather condition and a great surf coach – Vasco, he is the best, professional, kind, very talented and ambitious, he will give you the kind of push that you need to progress in your surfing. All in all I stayed 2 weeks with Surf2Smile and can recommend it to any surfer of any level.

I booked a week of surf camp. From the airport transfer to the daily surf lessons, simply amazing.

A huge shout out to my surf instructor, Vasco! I had an incredibly great time with him. His experience as a surf instructor is awesome!

I’ve made huge progress this week, and it’s clear to me that next year I want to have two weeks of lessons with him.

I can only recommend it to everyone.

Kind regards, Marcel.

Had an awesome time last 2 weeks surfing with great team! Good waves and good vibe! This is my 2nd year there and I enjoyed and learned a lot as always. They don’t just teach you how to stand on the board but really give you feedback for you to progress further! Video analysis was a great helpful tool (great footages) and the vibe of the people are generally great. I am definitely planning to go back next year 🙂

Frequently Asked Questions

Is This Camp Right for Me?

No — but you should ride green waves confidently.

If you can paddle out on your own, catch green (unbroken) waves, control your take-off, and ride along the face of the wave — you are ready for our Intermediate Surf Camp in Portugal. You don’t need perfect turns yet — that’s exactly what we coach here.

Absolutely — many guests join because they’ve hit a plateau. Our Intermediate Surf program is designed specifically to break bad habits, rebuild fundamentals, and help you finally start turning, flowing, and riding with confidence again.

You don’t need to be an athlete, but you should feel comfortable swimming in the ocean and paddling for several waves during a session. The camp is designed to gradually build your paddle strength, stamina, and confidence in the lineup, while keeping sessions fun and manageable.

Surf Coaching, Progress & Group Size

Our intermediate surf lessons in Portugal focus on:

  • stronger paddle power
  • better wave positioning
  • faster pop-ups
  • trimming and speed generation
  • first real bottom turns
  • improved confidence in bigger waves

Most guests leave riding longer waves, turning more intentionally, and feeling far more in control.

Yes. A big focus at this level is learning solid bottom turns, trimming, and starting your first top turns. With a mix of in-water coaching and video feedback, you’ll begin linking turns together and riding waves with more flow and control.

Yes, our video analysis sessions help speed up progression.

We keep groups small so every guest receives personal feedback. This allows our coaches to correct technique in the water, give individual wave selection tips, and offer tailored video analysis — something that makes a huge difference in intermediate progression. Usually there are between 4–5 students per instructor.

Surf Conditions, Levels & Equipment

Yes. We take intermediate surfers to more powerful beach breaks and reef-friendly conditions when suitable. Our local surf coaches choose the best spot each day so you can safely experience real Portuguese surf conditions while progressing faster.

Yes — beginners and intermediate surfers are always coached in separate groups.

This allows our intermediate surfers to train in suitable wave conditions, work on real turns, and progress faster without being slowed down by beginner-level drills. It also means you surf better waves and receive more specific coaching.

Yes, boards and wetsuits are included.

Absolutely. You’re welcome to bring your own board. Our coaches can help you fine-tune things like fin setup, board size, and positioning so your equipment works better for your current level — often leading to immediate improvements in the water.

Please feel free to contact us and we’ll be more than happy to help.
